The South Allegheny boys basketball team overcame an uninspired start and pulled away in the second half to take down section foe Ligonier Valley Friday, 62-47.

Gladiators sophomore guard Bryce Epps exploded for 13 points in the third quarter on his way to a game high 26. His brother Antonio Epps tallied nine of his 15 points in the second half as SA broke open a game that was tied at 33 early in the third quarter. Omar Faulkner scored 12 points and put down two dunks in the first half of the contest.

“We didn’t come out with the energy we needed to and allowed (Ligonier Valley) to stick around in the first half,” South Allegheny coach Tony DiCenzo said. “We made enough plays in the second half to be able to win here tonight. It was not our best effort, but we won, I guess that’s the best thing you can say about it.”

The Rams (3-8, 3-5) trailed 31-25 at halftime but came out of the locker room with a spark. Matt Marinchak, who led Ligonier Valley with 17 points, drained a 3-pointer to start the second half scoring. Bryce Epps answered with a basket for SA, but the Rams scored the next five to tie the game at 33.
