With just over two minutes gone in the second quarter, Serra Catholic’s top scorer Chloe Pordash picked up her third foul with the Eagles trailing California, 14-13.
With one of the Eagles’ top scorers in foul trouble, someone needed to step up in the scoring department for Serra.
Enter Nicole Pawlowski.
Pawlowski tied a school record for 3-pointers in a game with eight and scored a game-high 25 points as Serra Catholic rolled past the Trojans, 62-39, Thursday in Section 3-2A play.
The senior guard hit four of her threes in a second quarter in which the Eagles outscored Cal, 29-5.
“Pordash had a couple tough calls go against her and got caught with her hand in the cookie jar,” Serra head coach Bill Cleary said. “Nicole’s shooting was spot on; she missed a couple in a row and I thought she wasn’t on tonight. She passed up a wide open one and I told her not to be afraid of it. Then, she drilled one, and then another one. It was pretty cool to watch that.”
