EF softball teams get the green light for Florida trip

The Elizabeth Forward School Board Wednesday gave permission for the high school varsity and junior varsity softball teams and coaches to go to Florida next month.
The seven-day trip March 25-31 to the 2021 KSA Events Spring Training Session in Orlando takes the place of a trip to Disney World the board had approved last year.
School Director Jamie Evans raised concerns that participating in the spring training in Florida could impact the entire softball season.
“If they have anything to push them into quarantine, that would push the games back. I don’t want to see them hurt their season,” Evans said.
The COVID-19 pandemic caused the entire 2020 season to be canceled as the state was still struggling with the early months of dealing with the disease. School Director Megan Ferraro said there are no guarantees for the season.
“Something could happen to their season here in Pennsylvania and this could be their only opportunity to play. We’re not saying they have to go, we’re giving them permission to go if they choose to go,” Ferraro said.
Superintendent Dr. Todd Keruskin said there will be COVID-19 testing available at the training facility in Florida for the team members to be tested prior to leaving Florida, with additional testing possibilities before they go and upon their return, if they choose.
“There are testing sites within 30 minutes of here where they can get rapid testing,” Keruskin said.
The board approved the travel on a vote of 8-1, with Evans voting no.
