The Ringgold boys basketball team picked up their first section win of the season thanks to a big third quarter, some sharp shooting and good old fashioned effort.

The Rams (3-7, 1-5) got 20 points from Nick Peccon and 17 from Demetrius Butler in a 59-47 victory over visiting Connellsville Tuesday night. The Ringgold duo scored 27 of their total points in the second half. Cam Halushka also tallied double figures in points with 11.

During the third quarter, the Rams outscored the Falcons (0-5,0-5) 23-11, playing perhaps their best eight minutes of the season.

“At halftime we were talking about coming out and winning the third quarter,” Ringgold head coach Eugene Wilson said. “We were able to put (Connellsville’s) back against the wall and force them to foul. We were able to do that and we went on a nice little run.”

The three-ball was a timely weapon in the game for Ringgold as Ryan Pajak hit two in the game’s second quarter. Halushka added one and Peccon hit two at the start of the third quarter to help spark the Rams.

“Nick (Peccon) is playing really big for us, you want players to fit in when they get in, he always fits in right at the right time,” Wilson said. “I need him to get into the flow of the offense, even if he isn’t taking a shot. He did more than just score for us today. His presence demanded some attention.”
