Students in the Charleroi Area School District will have additional learning opportunities this summer.
In a report on Tuesday, Superintendent Dr. Ed Zelich said the district wants to create opportunities for all students to enhance their education or bridge gaps they might have suffered learning virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first program, a summer acceleration academy for students, will offer four weeks of learning for all grade levels at no cost to the district or families.
The program will begin at the end of June and be taught by district teachers, with transportation and lunches provided, Zelich said.
The second program will focus on credit recovery and will help students who may have fallen behind this year because of virtual learning.
“This year has brought a lot of challenges,” Zelich said. “We are trying to reinvent the wheel and figure out how to best help our students.”
