The Mon Valley recruitment train to Clarion is chalk full of local talent. One of those is Monessen’s Mark Mizerak.
Mizerak, who played at Greensburg Central Catholic, announced he would join the Golden Eagles program Jan. 23.
“I chose Clarion because I loved the campus and the facilities,” Mizerak said. “I also really liked the coaches and it just really felt like home.”
As much excitement Mizerak has to join the program, Clarion offensive line coach Vinnie Rizzo shared his excitement on a short video posted to the Clarion football Twitter page.
“We knew going into this thing that offensive line was a huge position of need. I think we did a great job in bringing in the right ones,” Rizzo said in the post.
“Mizerak’s big … 6-5 340. When he came to visit and stood up and I had to look up to him. He’s just a big dude that’s going to keep developing and be a good football player in this conference.”
Mizerak said the coaching staff felt he’s a good raw prospect.
“They think they can develop me into a great college football player,” he said. “I think my strengths are my size and aggressive mentality. I do want to build more athleticism and get more flexible.”
Mizerak, the son of Mark and Marjie Mizerak of Monessen, said he plans on majoring in sports management with hopes of staying close to the sport he loves.
“I want to become a starter at Clarion, compete for a PSAC title and hopefully, a national championship,” Mizerak said. “I’d like to earn a shot in the NFL.
“If not, I plan on doing something around the game of football with my degree.”
