D. Richard McBurnie, 80, of Charleroi, passed away on Feb. 11, 2021, peacefully in his home, with his family by his side. The son of the late Donald McBurnie and Oleda Risky Alessio, Rich was born in Ontario, Pa., on Oct. 7, 1940. Rich enlisted in the Pennsylvania National Guard, serving honorably for three years. In 1958, he then enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Korea. Following his service to his country, Rich was a 50-year journeymen for Pipefitters Local Union 354, a member of the local V.F.W., treasurer of American Legion Post 22 Firing Squad in Charleroi and an active member and past commander for American Legion Post 22 in Charleroi. Rich is survived by his wife and best friend, Darlene Spinner McBurnie, celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on March 11, 2021; his four children, Tim S. (Lori) McBurnie of Ohio, Richard J. McBurnie of Charleroi, Dan A. McBurnie of Charleroi, and Linda McBurnie McNaney of Charleroi; his grandchildren, Jon Thomas “J.T.”, Jared, Alaina (Dean), Travis, Janelle (Nick), Pastor Christopher (Sami), Colton (Ashley), Chase, Danielle and Morgan; and his beloved six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Rich was preceded in death by his daughter, Airman Terri McBurnie Suchy; grandson, Mac McBurnie; great-grandchild, Dylan; his brother, Hugh “Bud” McBurnie; his stepfather, James Alessio; and his stepmother, Esther McBurnie. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021, at SCHROCK-HOGAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi. Funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. A private burial will be held for immediate family only at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
