State Rep. Austin Davis has joined three other state House Democrats in calling for a “COVID-19 Vaccine Registry.”
In a co-sponsorship memorandum issued Friday, Davis, a McKeesport Democrat and chairman of the Allegheny County House Democratic Delegation, and state Reps. Ryan Bizzarro, D-Erie, Pam Snyder, D-Jefferson (Fayette County), and Jennifer O’Mara, D-Springfield, said their offices “have heard from frustrated and frightened constituents who are desperate to protect themselves and their loved ones by accessing the COVID-19 vaccine.”
“The restrictions of a Commonwealth do not permit us to create a statewide database of available appointments so Pennsylvanians must navigate a complicated process of trying to find a local provider who has vaccines and appointments for administration available,” the memorandum states. “Therefore, we are introducing legislation, which will allow patients to register themselves and their families as willing to receive the vaccine, provide proof of eligibility for a risk category and provide how far they are willing to travel.”
Davis said a person and their spouse or significant other would be able to register at the same time, add any risk categories such as smoking or pre-existing medical conditions and note first responder or essential worker status.
“Vaccine providers will then have to register to access this database and give priority to these patients in making appointments available for vaccines,” the House members wrote.
