Leonard Joseph Bednar, 78, of Mount Laurel, N.J., died Jan. 27, 2021, at Virtua Hospital in Marlton, N.J., after a brief illness. He was born in Charleroi on June 24, 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna Teringo Bednar Jr. of Gillespie. He is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia Franceschi of Mount Laurel; son, Paul Bednar and his wife Mary Beth of Pittsboro, N.C.; son, Christopher Bednar and his wife Lauren of Houston, Texas; and grandchildren Matthew Bednar, Andrew Bednar, Thomas Bednar and Mary Ann Bednar. Leonard graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University in 1965. He began his 45-year professional career at Westinghouse Air Brake in Wilmerding, Pa., where he worked on testing the Metroliner and later on the high-speed line between Lindenwold and Philadelphia. He later worked in specialized instrumentation sales with Weston Instruments, Magnetek and Metrix. Leonard’s continuous focus was always his family and helping others. He especially enjoyed coaching his sons in the Greentree Recreation Association in local and travel team competition. For the last 10 years, Leonard was deeply involved in the House of Charity fundraising at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church as well as other church related activities. For as much as he enjoyed these activities, his passion was spending quality time and traveling with his true love, Patricia, to whom he was married for 56 years. The family would like to give special thanks to the doctors, nurses and caregivers who worked tirelessly with him through his illness. A funeral Mass was held at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Cherry Hill, N.J. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Leonard’s memory to the 2021 House of Charity for Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Cherry Hill, N.J. Arrangements handled by BRADLEY FUNERAL HOME, 601 Rt. 73 South, Marlton, NJ 08053, 856-983-1005, Kevin T. Comber, N.J. funeral director.
