Couple turns love of coffee into business

Brownsville residents and husband-and-wife team Kalie Davis-Llewellyn and Mike Llewellyn love a good cup of joe.

So it’s no surprise that  their first business venture together is the Camel Coffee Company, located at 1309 Fayette Ave. in Belle Vernon.

The coffee shop, which opened last month, lets the couple indulge in their love of coffee as well as brew up some fun for residents and visitors to Belle Vernon.

Davis-Llewellyn said owning the shop pairs perfectly with their day jobs in the Brownsville Area School District. She’s a second grade teacher and he’s the district’s business manager.

“We love coffee and we just decided there is an opening for this sort of thing in the area,” Davis-Llewellyn said. “He’s more on the business side and I’m more on the creative side.”

Kalie’s creative talents are evident in the company’s name, as her family’s roots are from Syria, where camels are an important part of the culture’s history.

Inside the shop, visitors are greeted with more than a basic cup of coffee.

The menu offers varieties of coffee such as mochas, cold brews, lattes and nitro-infused coffee, a style of coffee that Davis-Llewellyn said can only be found at Camel Coffee Company.

“It’s new to the area and we’re offering it exclusively in Pennsylvania,” she said. “It’s a highly concentrated beverage. It pours like a beer.”
