A youthful Ringgold wrestling team came up with a couple big wins on the mat Wednesday and celebrated their lone senior in Joey Verscharen by defeating Elizabeth Forward, 45-30.

Rams sophomore Noah Mimidis earned a decision victory over EF’s Donovan Woytsek, 13-11, in extra time. Mimidis (126 pounds) moved to 9-2 on the season thanks to the victory. Juniors Chance Capicotto (172), Nate Peters (152) and Eric Hill (145) picked up pinfall victories for Ringgold (6-5).

“We’ve been working hard, I feel like we are underrated,” Ringgold head coach Luke Smith said. “We’re young, a lot of freshmen and sophomores on the team. I knew there would be some growing pains but the kids are getting better with every match.”

It was a disappointing night for the Warriors and head coach Rick Scheuermann. The team was down four wrestlers on the night and gave up 24 points to forfeits.

“We did not wrestle well with what we had tonight,” Scheuermann said. “ We’ve had guys out all year and in prior matches, we’ve overcome it.”
