Philip Kaluponov – Craven Hill, Charleroi

By obits

Philip Kaluponov, 66, of Craven Hill, Charleroi, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, at UPMC Presbyterian. He was born Oct. 24, 1954, in Pittsburgh, son of the late Andrew and Priscilla Kaluponov. In 1972, he graduated from Monongahela High School and went on to Shippensburg University, where he graduated in 1976. He then moved to the state of California and worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He developed many relationships and became a special person to many of the residents he served as a mail carrier for more than 30 years. After recently retiring, he moved back east to take care of his mother, Priscilla, during the last years of her life. Phil was a kind and gentle soul and a thoughtful, generous friend. He loved music, animals, nature and enjoyed documenting all his travels with his classic 35mm camera. Cheering on Penn State and Pittsburgh sports teams was a favorite pastime. But most of all, he loved being with family, which was very important to him. He was truly a great son, brother, uncle and cousin who will be greatly missed by all of us. Mr. Kaluponov is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Priscilla. He is survived by his sister, Daria (Tony) Tatasciore; their two children, Natalya and Michael; along with many loving cousins and extended family. Arrangements have been entrusted to ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Carroll Township/Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, where there will be a public viewing from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14. A private funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday for immediate family. Mr Kaluponov’s family would like to express its understanding for those unable to pay their respects due to pandemic concerns. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Philip’s memory to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 1 St. Nicholas Drive, Donora, PA 15033. To be socially responsible during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will continue to limit the attendance to 25 people inside the funeral home at any given time.
