New Eagle approves new regulations for landlords

Landlords in New Eagle will now face new regulations.
At Tuesday’s meeting, council members unanimously approved revising the borough’s occupancy permit after borough Administrator Kim Koontz alerted them earlier this month that landlords are not notifying her who is moving in and out of their properties.
The revised permit requires landlords to notify the borough of former tenants moving out of the property as well as new tenants moving in.
“We’re having problems with the landlords submitting their tenants that are moving in and not updating their records,” Koontz said.
She said when landlords don’t submit their occupancy permit, inspections by rental inspector EJ Volker get overlooked. According to Koontz, rental inspections are performed every time a new tenant moves into a property.
“If that landlord does not notify EJ, he doesn’t know to do it,” she said.
