Mid Mon Valley Transit Authority board member John Habel III informed Washington Township supervisors the transit provider is looking into creating a bus stop in a housing complex.
Habel said the board is considering creating a stop at Fayette County Housing Authority’s Marion Villa at the request of the supervisors.
“They’re going to start looking into it,” Habel said. “I guess maybe a survey out there for that specific, you know, housing plan.”
Zoning officer Bill Bergman asked if other stops would be created in town if a stop was added at Marion Villa.
Habel said he’s not aware of plans for any other stops in the township, but that he is under the impression that anyone on a street that is a part of a MMVTA’s bus route who waves a bus down can be picked up.
“You can flag down a bus anywhere on the bus route,” Habel said. “If you’re standing on (Route) 88 and a bus is coming down, you can wave at it and it’ll stop and pick you up.”
At her request, Habel told Supervisor Jan Amoroso that he’d double check if his statements about waving a bus down were correct.
Youth sports signups
In another matter, Bergman, who also is in charge of the Washington Township Youth Association, said youth baseball and softball sign-ups are kicking off.
Sign-ups are online this year.
Families can register at www.bellevernonareayouthsports.com.
Bergman said baseball sign-ups for children 8 and younger costs $20.
“That will cover their shirts, the insurance and stuff like that,” he said.
Sign-ups for the Bronco League (12U) and Mustang League (10U) is $50 and registration for Pony League (14U) is $60.
Bergman said softball sign-ups cost $20 for youths 8 and younger and $50 for those older than 8.
Full details are available under the “Registration” tab of the youth sports website.
When asked by Amoroso if financial aid is available for families that can’t afford the registration, Bergman said families yes and that families who are worried about whether they can afford registration should reach out to him via the website or at bvayouthsports@gmail.com.
“No child will be turned away because of not being able to afford it,” Bergman said. “ … We do have a program set aside. Some money for that kind of stuff, so we won’t turn anybody away because they can’t afford to do it. That goes for their equipment. That goes for anything.
“If the kid wants to play ball we will get him or her to play ball some way or some how.”
