Two Roscoe residents have come together to give the five-town region something to look forward to this fall — and hopefully years to come.
Janelle Carpenter and Rob Deavers are spearheading a committee that will bring the first 5 Town Fall Festival to the Mon Valley.
Carpenter, who is originally from Charleroi, said her son plays soccer at Five Town Park and she began to wonder if any community events happen there.
After talking to some of her friends and neighbors, she decided to create a community event to give her children and others in the community something to look forward to.
On Election Day, she brought the idea up to Roscoe Mayor Tom Wilkinson, who directed her to get in touch with Deavers.
A few weeks later, she saw a post about a potential community event by written Deavers on a Roscoe community group and reached out.
The 5 Town Fall Festival committee has held monthly meetings since December to gauge interest and find the help needed to pull off the event.
So far, there are more than 70 residents following updates on the committee’s Facebook page.
While still in the preliminary stage, the group hopes to gain interest from local residents who would like to volunteer or offer their services. Area businesses are being sought to sponsor the event, which is tentatively set for 11 a.m. to dusk Sept. 25.
