Jaguars roll

For the first time in three weeks, the Connellsville boys basketball team took the court as the Falcons locked up with visiting Thomas Jefferson on Friday night.
The long layoff, due to issues with COVID-19, was apparent for the Falcons. And with Thomas Jefferson shooting lights out from the field, the result was predictable as the Jaguars rolled to a convincing 64-38 win over Connellsville in Section 1 (5A).
“I have a lot of respect for (Connellsville coach Andy Hedrick),” Thomas Jefferson coach Dom DeCicco said following the game. “They are playing only their second game of the season and it’s February, so that makes it really tough for them. But they are going to get better.”
In this game, the Falcons (0-2, 0-2) managed to stay close early, but were ultimately no match for the hot-shooting Jaguars (11-2, 3-2). Freshman Evan Berger led the way for Thomas Jefferson as he drained six 3-pointers as part of a game-high 23-point effort. Senior Aidan Kelly wasn’t far behind as he knocked down four treys on his way to a 20-point night.
“Connellsville does such a good job in zone, so we had to be able to hit those shots,” DeCicco said. “I thought Berger and Kelly did a great job hitting their open shots.”
