With the initial legwork done by the Elizabeth Township comprehensive plan committee, the general public is being asked to add its input to the process.

Township commissioners  President Dr. Bart Rocco said the committee has reviewed numerous areas of township life, including looking at demographic information, economic development and redevelopment, land use, parks and recreation, natural resources and other topics.

“We’re now at the point where we’ve laid the groundwork to get public input on short-term defining goals,” Rocco said.

The township website invites residents to review the state of the township, with the assets of the community laid out topic by topic. The demographic section, for instance, shows that the 13,134 residents living in the 22.8-square-mile township are 96% white and 53% female with a median income of $61,563 and 8.2% living below the poverty line. Education is the top industry in the township, followed by manufacturing and professional fields.

Rocco said Elizabeth Township is known as a good place to live.

“I think we have a safe community,” he said. “We have strong churches, which is really a positive thing.”
