McKeesport used two pins and benefited from six forfeits in a 55-12 victory over Belle Vernon Wednesday in a cross-section dual meet at Belle Vernon Area High School.
Senior Chad Metikosh, who was fresh off a strong showing in the Powerade Tournament where he was one victory shy of placing, dropped a 3-1 decision to the Tigers’ Colin Lyons at 285 pounds.
“We knew heavyweight was going to be a good match and it could have gone either way,” Belle Vernon coach Bob Bove said. “Our young guys are struggling a little bit with learning how to win, which makes it frustrating because you know they know the technique to win, but they are not at a point where they know how to battle yet.
“They work their butts off to get back into the match, but they need to finish the match with a win. They need to be more competitive the entire match.”
Lyons, who will play football in college at Akron, trailed 1-0 after Metikosh escaped to start the second period, but scored the match-clinching takedown later in the frame for a 2-1 lead. Lyons escaped in the third and Metikosh couldn’t get the tying takedown.
