Monongahela Valley Hospital’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic received a boost late last year when the Washington County Commissioners provided more than $1.5 million in CARES grant funding to the hospital for the purchase of new equipment and personal protection items.

On Wednesday, commissioners visited the Carroll Township hospital’s Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center and got to see first-hand how the grant money was used.

The items on display included an ultraviolet-disinfection system, Maxair CAPR helmets, Elo Access Solution kiosks and Phillips EV300 ventilators.

Maxair CAPR helmets are powered air purifying respirators that are designed to protect workers against harmful particulates in the air.

“It’s state-of-the-art equipment,” Commissioner Larry Maggi said after seeing the items. “This hospital literally has been on the frontline from the get-go.”
