Faye Bernece Vercamen

Faye Bernece Vercamen, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021, at the age of 95. She was born Oct. 18, 1925, in California, Pa., a daughter of the late Roy and Margaret “Madge” Carson Kegg. In addition to her parents and her siblings, R.J. Kegg, Shirley Shannon and William “Bill” Kegg, Faye was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Paul, who passed in 1989. Faye is survived by her two loving children, Paul Reid (Jackie) Vercamen of Oviedo, Fla., and Kim (Blane) Black of Washington, Pa.; six grandchildren, Tonya Vercamen-Winegar of Winter Springs, Fla., Becky (Taylor) Nicelli of Orlando, Fla., Shannon (Ron) Ledwich of Marietta, Ga., Megan Black (boyfriend Brian Luketich) of Washington, Pa., Kellyn (Chris) Epping of Madison, Wis., and Matt Black of Washington, Pa.; and three great-grandchildren, Parker, Carson and Maggie Faye. She was affectionately known as “G-Diddy,” “Gigi” and “Grams” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Faye was a genuine, kind-hearted soul. She could strike up a conversation with just about anybody. She was an aficionado of home-cooked meals and some of her best recipes include pumpkin pie, waffle cookies, homemade french fries and the best mashed potatoes. She was an avid reader of biographies and mysteries and was a devoted “dog mom.” Faye had several fur babies throughout her life, Buttons, Micky and Manny, to name a few. Though she grew up and spent much of her life in Pennsylvania, her second home was in Bradenton, Fla. A “snow bird” at heart, Faye traded the cold winter months for endless sunshine at the beach on Anna Maria Island. Faye attended California University of Pennsylvania after graduating from high school. During World War II, she was part of the war effort of America’s greatest generation here on the home front. She worked in defense plants, performing duties such as reading blueprints for airplane parts and inspecting bombs. She also worked in the Office of Dependency and Benefits, making sure that checks were sent out to the families of servicemen. In later years after raising her family, she worked in the library at California University of Pennsylvania. Most of all, she dearly loved her family and instilled in them strong values that have served them well. She will be forever in our hearts and deeply missed by all who knew her especially her best friend and daughter, Kim. Her family wishes to thank Dr. Moulder of McMurray and his staff for their excellent care and compassion, as well as Dr. Rozlyn Berty-Bator for her care and kindness during her final days. Visitation will be held at SCHROCK-HOGAN FUNERAL HOME, 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, PA 15022 from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 2021, subject to COVID-19 restrictions.
