The Thomas Jefferson boys basketball team used its size to its advantage in rolling past Clairton, 77-35, in nonsection play Tuesday night.

The Jaguars (9-1) outrebounded the visiting Bears, 45-22, and had no one with double digit rebounds. TJ’s balance on the boards was supplemented by balanced scoring as all by one Thomas Jefferson player scored in the game.

Evan Burger led the way with 11 points with Ian Hansen and Ethan Dunsey scoring 10 each. Aidan Kelly snared eight boards, while Jake Pugh and Dunsey each had six.

“Our goal all year is that we need to rebound the ball; when we rebound the ball, we can have success,” Jaguars coach Dom DeCicco said. “If you look at our scoring leaders, everyone is within a couple points of each other. It can be anyone, any night. I think we are playing at a nice level, we’ve got to get better though.”

Hansen was all over the floor for TJ, adding four steals in the win.

“(Hansen) is my energizer bunny, he’s my guy that I know no matter what the score is, he’s going to be playing as hard as he can,” DeCicco said. “His leadership, with Pugh, Preston (Zandier), Kelly and Dunsey, has just been invaluable this year, they’ve been great.”
