Anne Louise Varela, 93, of Monongahela, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021, in her home. She was born June 10, 1927, in Elizabeth, the daughter of William and Mary McClure Maley. Anne was a homemaker and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Monongahela. Anne loved planting and taking care of her flowers, reading and watching baseball, especially the Pirates. She is survived by two daughters, Colleen Ross, with whom she made her home, and LuAnne (Ike) Kinder of North Port, Fla.; four grandchildren, Patrick (Missy) Collins, Jennifer (Dan) Booth, Ashleigh (Yvonne) Collins and Isaac (Deltah) Kinder; five great-grandchildren, Olivia Booth, Tyleigh Kinder, Addison Booth, Cora Kinder and Tucker Miller-Collins; a sister, Carole Pauwels of Bensalem; and a niece, Susan (Tom) Brewer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis M. Varela Jr., who died Sept. 19, 1996; son, Louis M. Varela III, who died June 7, 1987; sister, Marie Bonnett; and four brothers, James, Kenneth, Donald and William Maley. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Monongahela Area Library, 813 W. Main St., Monongahela, PA 15063. A private Mass of Christian burial was held in St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Monongahela, followed by interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
