Emil (Pida) Peda, 93, of Monessen, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021. Born in North Charleroi on Jan. 25, 1927, to the late Wasko and Julia Kovalsky Peda, Mr. Peda retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Monessen plant. He was a devoted member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 28. He was active in various fraternal clubs throughout Monessen and a graduate of Monessen High School, Class of 1945. Emil was an avid and excellent golfer all the way up until his 90s. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Michael Peda; and one sister, Helen Valancius. He is survived by four nephews, Thomas and Louise Valancius of Bethel Park, Doctors Michael and Elizabeth Valancius of Odessa, Fla., Robert and Patricia Peda of Hummelstown, Pa., and Gregory and Joann Peda of Harrisburg; two nieces, Patricia Valancius of Falls Church, Va., and Marianne and Ron Hoag of Winter Park, Fla.; and 26 great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2021, at ROBERT A. BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC., Grand Boulevard and Marion Ave., Monessen, PA 15062, www.billicksfuneralhome.com. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m Tuesday, Jan. 26, with Panachida in the funeral home, followed by 11 a.m. funeral service in St Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church Of The Assumption, Monessen. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s cemetery. The family suggests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to St. Mary’s Church at 125 McKee Ave, Monessen, PA 15062.
