COVID-19 testing will be available in Monessen next week.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, free tests will be offered to Mon Valley residents at the Monessen Civic Center under a collaboration between the city and Allegheny Health Network.

Mayor Matt Shorraw said the program has been in the works for a few weeks and details were finalized Thursday.

He worked with representatives from AHN, City Administrator John Harhai and Monessen Public Works staff to bring the event to Monessen.

“I noticed that AHN did a similar event in Aliquippa, and a few other communities, which is why I reached out to them to see if this was something they could provide here,” Shorraw said. “Many residents don’t have the financial means or adequate transportation to get to a COVID testing clinic, so we’re hoping this will help eliminate the barriers and provide a close resource for residents in need.

“This testing clinic will help bring testing opportunities closer to home, especially for residents who are elderly and low-income residents, and those who have limited transportation options.”
