McKeesport Area School District Superintendent Dr. Mark Holtzman presented elementary school student Killarney Cline with a certificate of appreciation at Wednesday’s agenda meeting as a thank you for creating the district’s 2020 holiday card.

“We just want to take a moment to recognize your efforts in making our holiday Christmas card,” Holtzman told Cline, a fourth-grader at Twin Rivers Elementary School. “This (card) goes to all the school districts in the entire county.

“So all the people that have my job in the other schools — we send this card out to kinda wish them happy holidays, and your artwork got put on the front.”

Holtzman said it’s a tradition for the Christmas card designer to be recognized at a January board meeting.

The front of the card wished the reader “Happy Holidays” and features a Christmas scene that Cline drew featuring Santa Claus wearing glasses, a gingerbread man with a Santa hat and a snowman. In the background is a cozy little house with smoke billowing from the chimney and a decorated Christmas tree in the yard.

The inside of the card features an MASD logo and the message “Season’s greetings and best wishes for the new year!”

Cline’s teacher, Ed Camic, is happy his student’s design was chosen for the holiday card. He said the fourth-grader deserves the recognition.

“As a student ‘Diablo’ as I affectionately call her, is UNBELIEVABLE!!!” he wrote in an email. “She works so hard, great listener, and super intelligent! She is well liked and respected by her peers.”
