Washington Township residents raise concerns about possible commercial development

Several Washington Township residents are questioning whether or not a commercial developer is interested in property in Lynnwood.
During Wednesday’s township supervisor’s meeting, Don Craig, who has lived in the township for more than 50 years, said he’s “concerned” a developer is looking at property near his home on the 1100 block of Fayette Avenue.
Craig asked supervisors Chuck Yusko, Jan Amoroso and Scott Hileman if they have heard anything about the potential for commercial development or if any commercial developers have applied for any permits.
Neither the supervisors, the zoning and planning commissions nor the zoning officer have received any requests for permits.
Fayette Avenue resident Mike Hammond asked if the supervisors could provide a list of developers looking at the property.
Amoroso said such a list wasn’t available because the township hasn’t received any official documentation showing the property is being developed or permits are being applied for.
“We haven’t received anything official,” Amoroso said. She later said she was informed that more than one developer has taken a look at the property in recent months, but it’s unknown if the development group has decided to purchase the property.
Yusko said he previously heard a developer was looking at building new houses on the property, but he isn’t sure where that stands.
Craig said he worries development of the property would lead to an increase of traffic congestion and accidents on busy Fayette Avenue.
“We’re going to be listening and watching out for what’s going on,” he said.
