The Washington County Democratic Committee Monday marked the Presidential Inaugural Committee MLK Day of Service with a food drive.

“Our entire office is filled with food and $9,300 was raised for the Greater Washington County Food Bank,” said Christina Proctor, the committee’s first vice chair.

Proctor said with matching funds from the committee, the donation will exceed $10,000.

In addition to food drop-offs at the downtown Washington office, the committee also signed people up to volunteer at the food bank on Route 40 in Centerville. Proctor said about 40 people stopped by the office to drop off donations.

“Because of coronavirus, we tried to keep a minimum number of people in the office,” Proctor said, adding that there were about four committee members in the office at a time to accept the donations at curbside to minimize contact.
