COVID-19 rates decline in Allegheny, Westmoreland

Increased COVID-19 testing will be available in Washington County next week, as numbers start to decline in area communities.
According to data from the state Department of Health, Allegheny and Westmoreland counties are trending down in positive cases compared to recent weeks.
On Friday, Allegheny County reported 420 additional cases of COVID-19, dropping its seven-day average to 574, the lowest since the county has reported since late November.
Westmoreland County also reported a decrease in positive cases, with a seven-day case average of 217, its lowest since New Year’s Day.
Across the state, there were 6,047 additional positive cases of COVID-19 reported Friday, bringing the statewide total to 754,611.
Of those, 4,980 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19, doubling the peak positive cases from last spring.
Allegheny’s case total is now 63,358 since March, with 50,696 of those confirmed.
The county is reporting 447 patients hospitalized for COVID-19, with 149 in intensive care units and 60 on ventilators. The county has had a total of 3,777 COVID-19 hospitalizations.
