Janey Barantovich Mellinger – Monongahela
Janey Barantovich Mellinger, 69, of Monongahela, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh after a two-month battle with cancer. Born July 10, 1951, in Monongahela, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary LaBella Barantovich. After her graduation from Monongahela High School, Janey pursued her teaching career by graduating from California University of Pennsylvania with her master’s degree in education. She retired after over 35 years from the Ringgold School District, where she taught elementary math, and was currently working in the department of elementary education at California University. She was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Monongahela, where she was past president of its Altar Rosary Christian Mother Society. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bocce and tennis and spending time with her friends in the book club. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Matt and Dana Mellinger of Upper St. Clair and Mike and Heather Mellinger of Seminole, Fla.; a sister, JoAnn and husband, Dr. James E. Carnes of Travelers Rest, S.C.; six grandchildren, Julia, Makaela, James, Shane, Carolyn and Victoria Mellinger; along with several loving nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her husband, Donald F. Mellinger, who passed away Dec. 5, 2016. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767. Blessing prayers will begin in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, followed by a Mass of Christian burial that will be celebrated in St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, 722 W. Main St., Monongahela, beginning at 10 a.m. with Father Patrick Barkey as celebrant. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
