Charleroi had expected to a hire a borough manager this month, but will instead reopen the application process.
Council decided to bring back the position after a recommendation from the state through the Strategic Management Planning Program and an auditor.
The last time Charleroi had a borough manager was in 2014. It currently operates with help from a borough administrator and secretary.
Formerly known as the Early Intervention Program, the program is now called the Strategic Management Planning Program. It helps communities develop comprehensive multi-year financial plans and establish short- and long-term financial objectives.
Charleroi agreed to enter into the program in 2018, and last year made progress in developing a comprehensive plan that includes the creation of a borough manager position.
While not all members are on board or agree the position is warranted, last month council took steps to move forward and begin accepting applications.
Applications were due in December, but when an Indeed job listing expired, not all submitted applications had been collected.
