A Rostraver Township business owner says he has spent $100,000 over the past two years to clean mud from the Westmoreland Sanitary Landfill away from his property.
John Lunt, owner of Equipment Connection and Party Rentals, said the mud on Tyrol Boulevard has damaged his parking lot, the drainage system for the lot and his showroom numerous times over the years, but he only started keeping track of how much the cleaning cost him in 2019.
“That was our biggest year. We spent $70,000. This (past) year we probably spent $30,000,” Lunt said.
The landfill offered to sweep the lot once, which Lunt appreciated, but he said his employees need to power wash the lot on a regular basis.
“We just thought there would be an end in sight,” he said. “We’re a business. We understand there may be hiccups, but it’s costing us money year after year.”
