Chandler Daniel is glad to be back in the Mon Valley.
The 2014 graduate of Yough High School was introduced as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at California University Monday afternoon.
Daniel, who earned his bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Duquesne in 2018, completed his master’s work at Cal the following year in exercise science and health promotion with his focus being on performance enhancement and injury prevention.
“I am really excited after being a graduate assistant at Cal to be coming back,” Daniel said. “I am very familiar with all the head coaches there. It is less like starting a new position and more like rejoining the Cal U family.”
Daniel will work with head strength and conditioning coach Bobby Sepesy.
“We are so excited to have Chandler join our team,” said Sepesy in a press release on the Vulcans’ website posted following Daniel’s hiring. “His background in athletics, academics and experience are going to be a great addition to our strong tradition of excellence.”
“Coach Bobby Sepesy and I will kind of split the teams up at Cal,” Daniel said. “I will be working with the entire realm and not just the football development. I have to be well-versed in athletic development.”
Daniel has been living in Stubenville, Ohio, but is planning to move to Brentwood. He was the head strength and conditioning coach at Brooke High School in West Virginia through the fitness company Pro Performance RX. Daniel was also a personal and group trainer at Pro Performance RX in Morgantown, W.Va.
“I am pretty excited to be moving to the Brentwood area just outside of Pittsburgh,” Daniel said. “It is not necessarily in the Valley, but I am really excited to kind of get back to the environment that I had, not only in high school, but when I was in graduate school at Cal. I can’t wait to get back and connect with some of my former coaches that I played for at Yough. I am kind of coming full circle here.”
California canceled all its fall and winter sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Daniel is eager to help prepare the Vulcan athletes to be ready when sports can begin competing again.
