Pennsylvania closed out 2020 with more than 640,320 confirmed COVID-19 cases and more than 15,970 deaths.

The U.S. case counts hit the 20 million mark as the country rang in the new year.

The U.S. total is nearly twice as many as the No. 2 country, India, and makes up nearly one-quarter of the more than 83 million cases globally, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, which shows COVID-19 deaths have also increased in the country, now totaling more than 346,000.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health on New Year’s Eve announced it would not release any update COVID-19 stats on New Year’s Day and that regular updates would resume today.
