Some family traditions can be a little untraditional, like the one Lori Sauritch of North Belle Vernon has carried out with her grandchildren for decades.

Sauritch, who enjoys spending time at Lake Erie, encouraged her grandchildren to place messages in sealed bottles and toss them into the lake when they were on vacation with her. There have been lots of grandchildren and lots of bottles tossed over the years.

Sauritch’s daughter-in-law Elsa Sauritch, also of North Belle Vernon, said it had been more than 20 years since any of the grandchildren heard back from anyone who found their bottle messages.
