Albert “Al” E. Slavic, 68, of Donora, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020, at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Brownsville on March 18, 1952, son of the late Albert Slavic and the surviving Thelma Harris Slavic. Al served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal for his honorable service. Mr. Slavic was a former member of American Legion Post 212 in Donora, where he served as a past commander. Al was always happy and enjoyed spending time in the pool, gardening and he treasured the time he spent with his grandkids. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Slavic. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Sheila Turkovich Slavic; two daughters, Tiffany Rimsek of Donora and Amber Slavic of Donora; seven grandchildren, Kyle Slavic, Kaitlyn Slavic, Bailey Rimsek, Nicholas Rimsek, Noah Rimsek, Brody Rimsek and Danny Pietroboni; his mother, Thelma Harris Slavic of West Newton; three sisters, Cathy of Ohio, Fran of West Newton and Virginia of Kentucky; a brother, David of West Newton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Carroll Township/Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home at noon Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020. Interment will follow at Mon Valley Memorial Park with full military honors accorded by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad. To be socially responsible during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will continue to limit the attendance to 25 people inside the funeral home at any given time. Guests are asked to obey social distancing guidelines and personal protection guidelines, which includes wearing masks within the funeral home. Guests may be asked to limit their visitation times so that all visitors will have the opportunity to pay their respects. Thank you.
