Karen Marie Acton Rice – Monongahela

Karen Marie Acton Rice, of Monongahela, passed away on Dec. 23, 2020, after a long battle with illness. Born Jan. 11, 1947, and a 1964 graduate of Monongahela High School, she was known to many as the kind and friendly clerk in the Monongahela City Treasurer’s Office for over 30 years. Karen is survived by her loving daughter, Amanda Rae Filipcic-Godsey and son-in-law, Ryan Godsey of Canonsburg; her sister, Kathleen Acton-Mason and brother-in-law, Ronald “Monk” Mason, of Monongahela; her nephews, Richard Barber, Chad Barber Jr. and Charles Yoder and niece, Amelia Barber, all of Pittsburgh; as well as many loving cousins, friends, and extended family. Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Michael Rice of River Hill; her son, Ronald Pellegrini of Monongahela; her parents, Thomas and Emmeline Oxner Acton of Monongahela; and her nephew, Chad Barber Sr. of Pittsburgh. Karen enjoyed crocheting, often gifting beautiful homemade blankets to family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends in a card club she was a member of for over 30 years. She always enjoyed being in the company of friends and family. She loved Christmas and decorating her home for the holidays. Karen will be missed by all who knew her. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005. www.donatenow.heart.org. Due to the ongoing pandemic, no services will be held at this time. A private memorial will be held for family and friends at a later date in the new year.  Arrangements are under the direction of FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC.
