Edward A. Matias – Glassport

Edward A. Matias, 90, of Glassport, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020. He is the son of the late Alois and Kathryn Popelka Matias. He is the beloved husband of 68 years to France Dworek Matias. He is survived by sons, Robert (Susan) Matias and Anthony (Terry) Matias; daughter, Linda (Mark) Matias; grandchildren, Eric (Kristen) Matias, Benjamin Matias and Michelle (Mike) Banaszak; great-grandchildren, Samuel and Alexander Matias, Bradley and Brianna Banaszak; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Frank and William Matias; sister, Lydia Kraus; and granddaughter, Valerie Matias. He was retired from U.S. Steel Clariton Works and was a private pilot since the age of 17. He and his brother, Frank, were the owners/operators of Frank’s Aviation in Apollo. Edward was a member of Queen of the Rosary Parish and the Aircraft Owner and Pilots Association and served in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War. He was also very devoted to animals, especially his two cats. Friends will be received from 4 to 8  p.m. Sunday at WOJCIECHOWSKI FUNERAL HOME, Glassport. A funeral Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Queen of the Rosary Parish. Interment will follow at Round Hill Cemetery.
