Charleroi Area students will have an extended period of virtual learning, and several other area school districts may reach the same decision.
Charleroi Superintendent Dr. Ed Zelich sent a letter to parents and guardians Monday informing them of the change.
Students originally moved to a temporary virtual learning model Nov. 23 and had been expected to return to class Dec. 7. As cases of COVID-19 continued to rise in Washington County, the administration decided to continue with the virtual model until Jan. 4, when winter athletics are scheduled to resume.
With cases still climbing, the school board has decided it’s best to again extend virtual learning in hopes it will be safe for students to return for in-person instruction Jan. 19.
If cases continue to trend upward, Zelich said that could change again.
“Additional learning model changes may occur based on county and community conditions of the COVID-19 substantial transmission data,” he said.
