Brewster: I am looking forward to another term

Incumbent Democrat Jim Brewster of McKeesport has broken his silence about the 45th District Senatorial race.

“Earlier this week, my reelection to the Senate was certified by the Secretary of the Commonwealth,” Brewster said Saturday in an email to the Mon Valley Independent. “The state certification follows the canvass of election results in Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties plus extensive and exhaustive court hearings on multiple levels, including the state Supreme Court.

“From the start, my position has been that every vote counts, every vote should be counted and voters should not be disenfranchised. I am looking forward to being sworn in for another term serving all the citizens of the district for another four years.”

Pennsylvania Department of State Communications Director Wanda Murren confirmed Thursday that Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar certified all down-ballot races, including the 45th District, on Wednesday.

The emailed statement marks the first time since Election Day that Brewster has commented publicly on the race.

The campaign and attorneys of Republican challenger Nicole Ziccarelli, a newcomer and a lawyer from the New Kensington area, say they’re pressing forward with a federal lawsuit that was filed in late November.
