William R. Laatu – Monongahela, formerly of New Stanton

William R. Laatu, 91, of Monongahela, formerly of New Stanton, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020, in Monongahela Valley Hospital. A son of the late Viljo Laatu and Anna Sophie Piisila Laatu, he was born in Monessen on Nov. 11, 1929. A resident of New Stanton since 1967, William had resided in Monongahela for the last year. Lutheran by faith, he had been a member of F&A.M. Lodge 252 Tri County and the American Legion in Monessen. A U.S. Army veteran, William had been employed by Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, retiring in 1991. He is survived by a son, Richard Laatu of West Palm Beach, Fla.; nephews, Brian Batiste of Fulshear, Texas, William Batiste of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Paul Batiste of McKees Rocks; and nieces, Donna Elliott of Canonsburg, Cheryl Oliver of Coraopolis, and Claire Kunsa of Jefferson Hills. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Batiste; a brother, Donald Laatu; a son, Leonard; and a daughter, Deborah. There will be no public visitation or services. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen.
