Weatherspoon selects Howard University

When you sit down to watch a Clairton football game, there may be one player that stands out the most.

It’s not the star receivers, running back or quarterback. It’s not the standout cornerback, safety or linebacker. It’s not the players getting all the press in your local newspaper day to day.

It’s Da’Metrius Weatherspoon.

Weatherspoon is a mountain of a young man. He stands 6-6 and weighs in at 315 pounds.

You can’t miss him once the action starts because he’ll be the player wearing the orange and black No. 55, tossing opponents and flattening them all over the field.

Now, he’ll be doing it at the Division I level.

Weatherspoon signed on the dotted line Wednesday, National Signing Day, to commit to play football at Howard University.

Howard is a historically Black university located in Washington, D.C.

“The biggest thing was the family atmosphere,” Weatherspoon said of his decision. “The bond the current student athletes had with the coaching staff even though they’re all new was impressive.

“And they were the only school that kept in touch with me even throughout my surgery and recovery process.”
