When Brandi Mikos of Elizabeth Township learned on the news about the Adopt A Server program set up in Kentucky, she immediately joined the Facebook group, but it was a short stay.
“By the next morning, I had been kicked out because I wasn’t from Kentucky,” Mikos said. “I decided I would start one for Pennsylvania. I had never started a Facebook group before.”
Adopt a Server is a national movement to assist service employees who are out of work because of shutdowns.
Mikos looked at other sites to set up rules and regulations for the Pennsylvania group. In a few short weeks she has received membership requests from all around the state, both from servers with needs to be met and from people willing to help them by buying all or part of their wish lists.
“I had 148 members, then I did a television interview and it went up to 1,700,” Mikos said. “People were having their wish lists bought, rent paid, money coming in. This has become a full-time job for me. Now there are over 3,500 members.”
