Clairton well represented on All-Eastern Conference team

After advancing to the WPIAL Class A championship game for the second straight year, Clairton led all teams with 10 first-team selections on this year’s All-Eastern Conference football team. 

Running back/linebacker Dontae Sanders highlighted the team as he was selected on both offense and defense. The 6-2, 235-pound senior also captured offensive and defensive player of the year laurels. 

Sanders, who averaged nearly 16 yards per carry, finished the season as one of the WPIAL’s top rushers, compiling 1,830 yards on 118 carries and scoring 29 touchdowns. His season was highlighted by a 428-yard, six-touchdown performance against Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in the Class A quarterfinals Oct. 30. 

Sanders wasn’t the lone Clairton player selected as an all-conference pick on boths sides of the ball. 

Da’Metrius Weatherspoon, a 6-6, 315-pound lineman who will play his college ball at Howard University, was selected at offensive tackle in addition to the defensive tackle spot. He was named lineman of the year. 

Other offensive honorees for the Bears were 5-11 junior wide receiver Brooklyn Cannon and 6-0, 240-pound senior guard Allen Rice. 

Joining Sanders and Weatherspoon on the defensive list were 6-3, 250-pound defensive end Tyyon Cobbs, 5-11, 220-pound senior linebacker Derrick Hampton, 5-8, 180-pound senior defensive back Isaiah Berry and Andre Henderson, a 6-2, 165-pound senior safety.
