School directors approved a proposal Wednesday night that paves the way for the construction and design of a new $5.2 million natatorium and locker rooms project at Ringgold High School. It is expected to begin in March and be completed in 2022.
The project — phase one of a three-phase renovation at the high school — includes the construction of a new pool, new boys and girls locker rooms, lighting, flooring, ceiling tiles, doors, bleachers, ductwork and making the facility ADA compliant at the school’s building that houses the swimming pool.
The motion to accept the proposal was approved 7-2. School directors William Stein, Gene Kennedy, Harley Bobnar, Carol Flament, Maureen Ott and Jason Gerard voted yes on the motion. Directors Lawrence Mauro and James Dodd voted against it.
The move gives engineering firm HHSDR the green light to accept bids in March for a project that officials say is long overdue.
Superintendent Randall Skrinjorich said the swimming pool has not been renovated since the high school was built in 1977 and is currently closed down due to equipment issues.
“This project has been in existence for over two years now,” he said. “In the past year, this is the fourth time we’ve talked about this.”
