Entries for White Oak’s first-ever borough-wide home decorating holiday contest must be received by today.

Borough Manager John Palyo, reading from a message from Councilwoman Julie Opferman, reminded council and residents at Monday’s in-person workshop meeting about the deadline and said judging by the Recreation Committee, which Opferman chairs, will occur this weekend.

Photo entries, along with an address and the resident’s/family’s name, should be emailed to Michelle Gessner at Michelle@woboro.com.

At the Dec. 21 regular meeting, the recreation committee will announce winners in three categories:

• Best Traditional for homes with a “classic and elegant display.”

• Clark Griswold for “the most extravagant display of lights.”

• Buddy The Elf for the “most festive display (can include themes and inflatables).”

First-place winners in each category will be presented with plaques during the meeting.

The borough plans to post photos of some of the holiday displays at woboro.com and on the White Oak Borough PA Facebook page.

“We’re showing that we’re encouraging distancing but are also trying to get people in the spirit by decorating their homes,” Palyo said.
