Salvation Army offers care kits for COVID-19 patients

COVID-19 care kits containing everything an individual or family would need for three days are being prepared by the Monessen Salvation Army.

“We had a great opportunity to provide a service to the community,” said Heather Martin, a Monessen Salvation Army board member who is leading the project.

Martin holds a degree in homeland security and public health and has designed the care kits with CDC guidelines for addressing the COVID-19 pandemic in mind.

“Everything comes in a three-day supply to keep people from having to go out in those first three days when they may be most contagious. It gives them time to come up with a plan on how they will handle the situation,” Martin said. “There are a lot of people in the situation who may be elderly, or single-parent families who may not have family in the area.”

Martin said anyone who needs a care kit should call the Monessen Salvation Army at 724-684-4282 and leave a message.

“They will get a call back within an hour with a questionnaire about what they need,” she said.
