Jerome Street Bridge rehab work to begin

PennDOT District 11 announced Tuesday that the Jerome Street Bridge rehabilitation project will resume today, weather permitting.

The bridge (Route 2094) spans the Youghiogheny River and connects Lysle Boulevard in downtown McKeesport to the city’s 10th Ward, as well as Port Vue.

Single-lane restrictions will occur daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Romine Avenue and Gibson Way through late March. A single 10-foot lane will be maintained in both directions on the bridge.

The northern sidewalk will remain closed to pedestrian traffic, but the southern sidewalk will remain open. Signs are posted.

The Joseph B. Fay Company is the prime contractor for the $15.44 million project, which includes installing a new concrete deck and sidewalk, barrier repairs, full painting, structural steel repairs, bearing replacement, concrete substructure repairs and new expansion dams.

The overall project is anticipated to conclude in November 2022. PennDOT announced the project at a public planning meeting at the Palisades in McKeesport in 2017. The first phase of the project, which involved preparing the bridge for the work that will begin today, was completed in the fall.
