Children in Monessen will get an extra visit from Santa this year thanks to a special donation to the local Salvation Army.
Salvation Army Capt. Sue Thwaite said the Monessen citadel recently received some sweet treats.
“We received a large donation from a local distributor and we have loads of gingerbread house kits, candy canes, cookies and Christmas chocolates,” Thwaite said.
Volunteers have put together treat bags that will be handed out from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot beside Monessen Public Library. Thwaite said Santa and his elves will take all necessary precautions to safeguard public health at the no-contact event.
“Santa will be waving from a distance and the elves will bring them a bag of Christmas cheer. There will be no activities on site,” Thwaite said.
Thwaite said the bags will contain activity sheets and other materials as well.
