Scarf bombers spread warmth in Elizabeth

An Elizabeth Borough woman and her family bombed downtown Elizabeth last weekend with warm scarves for anyone who needed them.

This was the second year for Linda Rayman to serve as a scarf bombardier in the borough, though she has participated with her sister-in-law’s scarf-bombing projects in Pittsburgh in the past. Last year, scarves were tied to fences and utility poles. That same technique was used this year, but there were also some focused donations as well, Rayman said.

Some were handed out along with live Christmas trees for veterans that were distributed last weekend. Others were given to the social worker in the Elizabeth Forward School District to get to students in need. Rayman said she also dropped off scarves to the Head Start and Dart programs at the Education Center in Elizabeth.

“Plus I took some scarves down to the river when they were looking for Jeno (Moretti) if anyone needed a scarf to keep warm,” Rayman said.

Rayman also included the Head Start and Family Center programs in Clairton this year, bringing the total number of scarves she made and distributed to 347.

“I made all the scarves myself. My husband, daughter and two granddaughters helped pass them out.,” Rayman said. “Next year I’m hoping to expand to the McKeesport kids.”
