Lillian H. Matthews Smereczniak, 93, of Belle Vernon, passed away Mon-day, Nov. 30, 2020, at The Residence at Hilltop, Monongahela. Born Feb. 8, 1927, in North Charleroi, she was the daughter of the late Jules and Marcelle Fleury Matthews. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon, Lillian was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, Belle Vernon, was a homemaker and enjoyed playing cards with her lady friends in local Belle Vernon card clubs. She is survived by her three children, Marcelle Frank of Cross Junction, Va., John and Ann Smereczniak of Red Wing, Minn., and Renee and Robert Shaefer of Southport, N.C.; five grandchildren, Lynne, John, Benjamin, Philip and Alex; and four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Sierra, Miranda and Dylan. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Smereczniak; and two brothers, Raymond Matthews and Edward Matthews. Family visitation was held Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020, at PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATIONS, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183, followed by funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Joel Boco as celebrant. Interment took place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. A celebration of life will also be held at a later date.
